About Richard
Hi there I’m Richard Bradford, the owner operator of Canberra Home Builders.
Timber has always been in my blood. After leaving school I went straight into a 4 year building apprenticeship working for my father, which has led to over 15 years of carpentry experience coupled with 21 years in construction and home design.
Even after stepping away for a few of years early in my career, I built the Heaviest Marlin annual trophy for the Bateman’s Bay Game Fishing Club and the Ainslie vs. Eastlake Dee Day Trophy because I couldn’t stay away from working with wood (I loved the attention to detail, just as I do today).
I am particularly proud of the fishing trophy, because just like with every house I build… I am passionate about every little detail.
The icing on the cake was when the club president took it to show John Dunphy, the founder of Shimano Australia and a legend in the fishing tackle business, and he referred to it as a great work of art.
My Wife Made Me Build My First Home
In the year 2000, my wife called me out of the blue and said “Honey I’ve found the perfect block of land!” Even though I later discovered it had a 10 metre fall from front to back, I took up the challenge and built our first home in 12 months worth of weekends whilst holding down a day job.
It was then that I initiated my building business…
Starting out we mostly built pergolas and decks, before moving on to a few ‘spec’ and dual occupancy homes.
However once we assembled our winning team, we began building homes for clients.
Entering the project building space we found there was significant detail missing from many quotes, and saw the opportunity to set ourselves apart by providing high attention to detail throughout every facet of the building process.
We built our second family home in 2007, which was my very first ‘passive home.’
The difference was night and day – and it was the ultimate antidote to the Canberra climate.
From that day forward we’ve specialised in building high spec, fully customised, energy efficient homes with superior attention to detail and a fully transparent process.

Right from our first meeting with Richard, I was struck by his attentive, confident and calm approach, encouraging close consultation and impressing us no end with his organisational skills (and organised office!).
